Article that ran in the News Democrat and Leader on July 9th, 2015:

Due to the recent landfill closure, Scott Waste Service is offering free dump days for the month of July on Saturday, July 11 and Saturday, July 25. After that, beginning in August, free dump days will be on the first and third Saturdays of each month from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The only difference is the place you will go.

Instead of taking your waste to the landfill for free twice a month, you will now take it to the transfer station in South Union on Hwy. 73, which crosses Hwy. 68. The transfer station is not a landfill, it is a holding place that is frequently cleared with the waste hauled off to a landfill in Hopkins County, which is where the trash from curbside services in Logan County is taken.

The same rules that governed the free dump days at the landfill will continue at the transfer station. Only one pickup truck load will be accepted on the designated Saturdays for free dump day. The load must have a tarp covering it while transporting and there can be no toxic chemicals such as paint, pesticides, herbicides, turpentine, etc. brought in. Also no tires, televisions or appliances. You can dispose of your kitchen appliances such as refrigerators, stoves and washer and dryers at Cumberland Scrap in Russellville.

The transfer station will be open Monday through Saturday for use by the citizens, however, if it is not on the days designated for free dumping, you will be charged accordingly by weight of load.

For more information about the transfer station or free dump days, please call Logan County Solid Waste Coordinator Dwight Cockrill at 270-726-7220.
